A community hui to discuss the implications and opportunities of the new NPS-UD rules in Paekākāriki and the suitability for alternative housing models.

The Paekākāriki Housing Trust was set up in 2016 by a small group of locals in response to a much-loved whānau being priced out of the community.  However, concerns were raised about how that was going to look and how the existing infrastructure would support the planned intensification.

The Urban Advisory facilitated a discussion with local residents to better understand what the new NPS-UD rules meant for the village, the benefits of intensification, what intensification could look like and brought attention to the Kāpiti Coast District Council’s proposed Community Land Trust.

A range of opinions and voices were heard at the November 2022 workshop. Representatives from Ngāti Toa and Ngāti Haumia were also present. The output of the hui has been used to inform future planning.  And there is wider understand in eh community about the potential role that different types of housing can play.
