This project is part of the wider piece of work TUA undertook for the development of the Racecourse site in Dargaville.

Community and stakeholder engagement to understand the aspirations, needs and requirements for the proposed development of the Dargaville Racecourse site.

The Challenge

The Dargaville Racing Club, Dargaville Development Board and Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua received a grant from the Provincial Growth Fund, to prepare a plan change application to Kaipara District Council for future development of the site.

The Solution

Insights from the engagement events were analysed, themed and collated into a summary report that was used to inform the concept development plan and also included in the Plan Change application.

The Journey

Engagement with neighbouring residents, Racing Club members and the wider community was undertaken early on in the project to introduce key stakeholders to the development opportunity being considered by the plan change, and to provide a forum to hear key concerns, aspirations and opportunities for the development from within the community.

Later engagement was used to keep the community informed about the project and provide an opportunity to give feedback on the proposed plan before it was lodged with the Kaipara District Council as a Plan Change application.
