TUA Impact.

Supporting Community
Communities are at the heart of our built environments. We are passionate about engaging with, lifting up, and learning from the many diverse communities here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Supporting Community
Communities are at the heart of our built environments. We are passionate about engaging with, lifting up and learning from the many diverse communities here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Ways in which we do this is supporting communities to participate in the process of building our homes, neighbourhoods, towns and cities.
We do this through the good old fashioned workshop and a range of participatory design practices, but also through our commitment to research that enables people to have a voice in areas they wouldn’t usually and through supporting housing development that enables greater resident participation.
Cities should be a function to serve people, and we’re always trying to find new ways to make public participation more effective.
Examples of our community-focussed work includes:
- Community Visioning in Paekākāriki
- Uptown Business Association
- Madras Square Engagement Workbook

Gathering Data
The NZ Housing Survey is TUA’s brand new initiative to gather quality data from real New Zealanders. This data will be available for use by organisations, leaders and Government to make informed decisions about housing across New Zealand.
Gathering Data
Quality data is vital to informed-decision making. With research being a core component to what underpins our work as Urban Strategists, we place high value on trustworthy, detailed data.
As well as engaging in research projects for clients, The Urban Advisory is highly regarded as a NZ Research Organisation in it’s own right. Dr Natalie Allen’s research background in particular, lends itself to developing comprehensive research insights to benefit clients and their communities.
The most recent research initiative by TUA is The NZ Housing Survey which, via a rigorous development process, is now working to gather quality data from real New Zealanders. This data will be available for use by organisations, leaders and Government to make informed decisions about housing across New Zealand.

Think Big
We love big, innovative ideas. Our job as Urban Strategists is to break down complex visions into step by step strategies, detailing what needs to happen and how, for an idea to become a reality.
Think Big
We love big, innovative ideas. Our job as Urban Strategists is to break down complex visions into step by step strategies, detailing what needs to happen and how, for an idea to become a reality.
When people come to us with what they describe as a pipe dream, we sit them down and explain why we believe nothing is impossible. We thrive in understanding the nuts and bolds of complex challenges; making the who, what, where, when and how not only tangible, but achievable.
So if you have a big idea, or even a small one, give us a call and run it past us.
We’ve been identifying ways to turn visions into actionable strategies for years: have a look at this one we developed in collaboration with Dr Julia Rucklidge, Professor of Clinical Psychology, to develop the Tūmanako Wellness Centre.
