TUA worked alongside Ngā Hapū o Ōtaki to first secure funding; then produce their Housing Strategy.

The Challenge

Ngā Hapū o Ōtaki needed support to secure funding to then develop a Housing Strategy to provide for their community.

The Solution

TUA supported Ngā Hapū o Ōtaki to articulate their aspirations as they relate to housing, to help determine the strategic direction of the Trust and what their priorities were. A key aspect of this work was helping to equip the Trust to engage with the government, the Kāpiti Coast District Council (KCDC) and other stakeholder and/or partner organisations active in the housing space.

The Journey

TUA supported Ngā Hapū o Ōtaki in the application for funding by reviewing insights from Ngā Hapū o Ōtaki’s whānau housing needs assessment, to develop the structure of their own Housing Strategy. Other work included desktop data reviews, workshops to set the vision for the structure of the Housing Strategy, mapping out sites, determining whānau ownership, and identifying the planning context.

TUA also provided an overview of options to secure further funding, and are still supporting the team at Ngā Hapū o Ōtaki to secure and progress their kaupapa.

"Our relationship with TUA seeks to redefine what working in a true partnership means. Whilst the tangible outcomes will produce our Housing Strategy, being the crucial first step to achieving our housing aspirations, the intangible benefits of this relationship will enable both entities to increase their capacity and matauranga." - Project Lead, Ngā Hapu o Ōtaki
