TUA supported the development of a concept for a new healthcare model, which could provide respite care for patients healing from mental illness.

The Challenge

New Zealand’s mental health system is in crisis, with high rates of mental illness and suicide. Our rangatahi (youth) are particularly affected and, as of September 2020, New Zealand’s youth suicide rate is the second worst in the developed world. The Tūmanako Wellness Centre aims to respond to this need by offering a fresh approach to mental health care that will provide holistic patient-centred care.

The Solution

TUA worked alongside a group of other passionate professionals, to co-design and develop a new operational and delivery model for mental health care. This involved developing a proposed building design, as well as the concepts of the commercial and operational model.

The Journey

TUA supported Tūmanako in finding the financial investment needed, to enable them to put their vision into action for a groundbreaking mental health facility. Specifically, this includes preparing written collateral (an ‘investor pack’), marketing and communications, partnership engagement, and the establishment of a charitable trust. These were the first steps in working towards bigger long-term goals, and are critical in moving Tūmanako from idea to reality.
