TUA undertook an urban design assessment for an apartment development in Warkworth; the first to realise the Mixed Use Built Form in the area.

The Challenge

The client, Urban Detail Ltd, sought urban design advice to achieve resource consent for a luxury apartment development in Warkworth.

The Solution

The sloped site is situated on the edge of Warkworth town centre, in a Mixed Use Zone. This development, however, would be the first to realise the Mixed Use built form in Warkworth.

While on-site commercial was not included, the design development sought a high quality residential design outcome with spacious floor plans, sustainable on-site amenities, locally informed materiality, and access details to provide easy pedestrian access to all the amenities available in Warkworth's centre. Overall, TUA's urban design input supported the apartment to achieve resource consent.

The Journey

TUA worked with Urban Detail Ltd to develop the design for the apartment building (‘The Portland’), which referenced the river port history of the town. The result was an attractive and high quality development - the first consented project to make use of the Mixed Use Zone around Warkworth town centre.
