This project involved developing a marine asset network map, for the Eastern Bays area of Central Auckland.
The Challenge
A lack of understanding existed for the Eastern Bays Sailing and Boating Clubs, about the marine assets and how its network of facilities exists. There were competing views about what type of uses and activities should take priority - and at what location - so the Club bought TUA onboard to assist in developing an asset network map.
The Solution
TUA undertook asset mapping of the network. Then, position statements were developed and key requests collated and coordinated. This work included presenting the information and developing visual aids to support presentations to the Local Board, governing body and other stakeholders.
TUA also developed a document to assist with advocacy for a more coordinated approach to decision making. The goal for this document was to to advance the position of one club who wanted to secure additional public reserve space for the use of the club. The document was used as a communication tool to better enable coordination among stakeholders.
The Journey
Having an in-depth understanding of the assets that exist within a sector, their uses, their capacity and restraints, was the key to coordinating long term planning for this network of assets.
