Understanding how economic and urban development work together.
Development Christchurch Limited (DCL), was being disestablished with the economic development agency (ChristchurchNZ) in Christchurch taking over its functions. DCL was seeking to understand how the functions of economic and urban development could work together.
The advice provided a summary of the literature about the inter-relationships between urban development and economic development functions of Council Controlled Organisations and outlined the major learnings that could be applied in the Christchurch context.
Providing advice assisted those to design and deliver a transition plan that saw the successful integration of DCL’s urban development and regeneration functions with the Christchurch NZ's economic development agenda. Christchurch NZ has since enabled several urban development projects on council owned land, in collaboration with the private sector.
