This piece of work centred around understanding how economic and urban development work together.

The Challenge

Development Christchurch Limited (DCL) was being disestablished, with the economic development agency (ChristchurchNZ) in Christchurch taking over its functions. DCL was seeking to understand how the functions of economic and urban development could work together.

The Solution

TUA provided a summary of the literature about the inter-relationships between urban development and economic development functions of Council Controlled Organisations. TUA then outlined the major learnings that could be applied in the context of Christchurch.

The Journey

Providing advice assisted those to design and deliver a transition plan that saw the successful integration of DCL’s urban development and regeneration functions with the ChristchurchNZ's economic development agenda. ChristchurchNZ has since enabled several urban development projects on council owned land, in collaboration with the private sector.
