Identifying priority areas for development in central Lower Hutt.
The Challenge
Hutt City Council had a goal of enabling the construction of 3,500 homes, via investment in stormwater infrastructure for flood mitigation. They wanted to understand which areas would be the most suitable for development, so needed to identify the priority areas for investing in flood mitigation.
The Solution
To address this challenge, TUA looked at the requirements of the IAF. TUA then incorporated other datasets to understand things like walking catchment from amenities, proximity to transport nodes, key natural hazards and more, to maximise benefits beyond the immediate funding objectives.
The Journey
This project's journey centered around ensuring the targeted mitigation of the right areas that were vital for facilitating housing development. Then, by providing advice that extended beyond the confines of the IAF funding criteria, TUA conducted a thorough analysis to encompass a broader criteria.
This involved navigating a path that not only met the immediate objectives, but also provided comprehensive advice aligned with larger considerations to ensure holistic development for the city. Collaborating closely with engineers, TUA's approach sought to mitigate as many areas as possible, while ensuring precision by targeting locations critical for housing development.
