Co-Directors Dr Natalie Allen and Greer O'Donnell picked up a Highly Commended award for the Whangārei Future Development Strategy at the NZPI Best Practice Awards (Strategic or Non-Statutory)

New Zealand’s resource management system is undergoing the biggest rewrite in a generation. Two new Acts — the Planning Bill (land use, development, infrastructure) and the Natural Environment Bill (environmental outcomes and limits) — are before Parliament to replace the RMA, with enactment targeted around mid‑2026.

Our response supports the intent to replace the RMA with a more consistent, data-driven system that reduces consenting friction while safeguarding environmental limits. However, we believe the success of this reform hinges on moving beyond "paper consistency" to true systems integration.
